A Springfield-Centric Look at Major League Baseball
In his brilliant, hilarious assigning of analogous Simpsons characters to each MLB team, Barstool Sports' Dan McCarthy says the Phillies resemble Bart's pal Milhouse, for these reasons:
Lack of adequate vision (blind without his glasses, hanging on to Jim Thome). Perpetual sidekick to a more successful leader who constantly takes advantage of their weaknesses. Striving for a goal (Lisa's affection, the playoffs) that looks unattainable in their current state, and nobody really takes them seriously.
Damn, that's harsh. And true. Did I mention true? And that would make Ed Wade Milhouse's dad, right? Perfect.
Does anyone remember the episode in which Milhouse passes Lisa's anonymous "I like you" note to Nelson in class? Nelson looks back and sees Milhouse nodding and smiling; the next scene has a shattered Milhouse being removed from school on a stretcher. Homophobia was never so funny. (For the record, the post equates Lisa with the Red Sox; Nelson doesn't even make the cut.)
(Hat tip to A List of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago.)

Thanks for the link. There's nothing better than a good Simpsons analogy! Especially when the Phils end up being Milhouse! Perfect!
