Patting Myself on the Back While I Ask for Help
Many thanks to the folks at the Gawker sports blog Deadspin, who on Thursday named Shallow Center as being among "Blogdom's Best." Congrats to Jason Weitzel, who runs the fabulous BeerLeaguer, and to Jane McMaster Conroy and Rob Bonter, proprietors of Phanatic Phollow Up; Deadspin also cited these two blogs. My only quibble is that the terrific work of so many other Phloggers -- in particular Tom Goyne, Tom Goodman, and Brian Peoples -- didn't get a nod as well. All of these folks have raised the bar with their incisive writing, cogent observations, and original thinking; it may be tough to be a Phillies fan, but it's a great time to read new and interesting stuff about our favorite team.
In its brief review, Deadspin observed that Shallow Center is "[n]ot just about the Phillies, but it's got what you need." I'd like to ask whether you think that's true. I've tried to make the site a repository for the things which interest me, and to write with professionalism and class, but when I look at the work of the writers I've cited above, I find myself wishing I could do more, and do better. So -- how to go about that? (Before you suggest a redesign, know that that's coming. A cleaner, more visually attractive look is on its way, as soon as I can find the time to play around with the template.) What would you do to make this a better blog?

Tom,
Congrats on the nice mention. You deserve it all!

TD, I think what you do here is damn good. I enjoy the fact that, despite the fact that I know you're a strat geek, you don't play the numbers in Shallow Center. It's a fresh take on the Phils. And the "other important matters" are equally well written. My advice: keep on keepin' on.
...though I would like to see some kind of spiffy banner...wonder where you might get one of thoe.

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. Two responses -- either everyone thinks I'm doing a great job ... or no one's reading.
