It's Just Kids ... Kids ... More Kids ... Stupid Kids

A Changing of the Guard at Wonkette Gives Me Blog Envy

IT WAS BAD ENOUGH when blogging hottie Ana Marie Cox confirmed that she was turning over her very, very funny (and quite profane and often smartly inappropriate) political site Wonkette to a couple of second-stringers. Then I came across this depressing item in the story about Cox's departure and about the two new guys:

[David] Lat will be joined by [Alex] Pareene, a 20-year-old dropout from New York University, who will co-edit the site.

That sound you hear? That's me smacking myself over the head with my bachelor's and master's degrees while I set at a desk at my day job.

If it's any consolation, I don't read any of the Gawker websites nearly as much as I used to. For me, anyway, they have a really high burn rate -- they're funny and addictive for a few months, but the idea and the execution wear themselves out pretty quickly.

P.S. Great headline, at least for the members of our immediate family.

give'm beads it makes'm friendly.

I love Wonkette more after I saw her picture. Who knew cute girls could blog?!?

Meh. She's not that hot.

Have you seen me and Tom? Compared to us, she's Miss America!!

I disagree with you anyway. Even without the comparason, she is attractive in a smart, funny, understated kind of way.

if only to be a lone minority, let me just submit that i've always disliked the wonkette site and don't think she's that hot. i mean, she's a decent looking girl, but i never found her very funny and i enjoy laughing at mostly everything. her forays into reporting for ABC were pretty lame too.

This conversation reminds me of Lloyd exploding at his buddies who are hanging out outside the convenience store in Say Anything ...

Celebrity Death Match-Ana Marie Cox v. Maureen Dowd.

ok, campagna, NOW i like ana marie cox. maureen dowd is the epitome of all the girls who made high school suck so bad for marginal losers like me.

GR-- So, what you're saying is, Ana Marie Cox is no Kristen Bell?

GR-You were only a "marginal loser" in high school. You weren't trying hard enough-I was a total loser. You're right about Dowd, but I would've lusted after her anyway. Besides she looks a lot like an old (desperately unrequited) crush. Oh the agony!

I'm with Chris in the first comment. I used to read a ton of the Gawker sites, but after a while they get old. I still hit up Deadspin and Gizmodo all the time but don't really put in the effort to read any of the others. While I wouldn't call her hot, she definitely is cute based on that lone picture.

no one is kristen bell. she's almost too hot to look at.

I do have a little thing for Maureen Dowd, I must confess. Though, truthfully, she's no Ana Marie Cox. Or Kristen Bell. Or David Bell.

As for the Gawker sites, yeah, the snark factor gets pretty high, which is one reason I absolutely love their Lifehacker blog. Snark free, completely useful and cool.
